Happy Birthday Oliver!

Oliver was born two years ago today. It's crazy how much he has grown since his first birthday. He wasn't walking or talking yet. We've learned so much about him, like how obsessed he is with cars, trucks, trains, etc., how polite and sweet he is, how mischievous he can be, and how smart he is.

His 1st Birthday
To celebrate his second birthday, we had his party yesterday while Jan's parents were in town. We've been telling him it was close to his birthday for a while, so I think he finally just started thinking his birthday was always going to be in the future. When he saw his Oma and Opa on Sunday morning, he realized that it was finally time for this "birthday" of his.

He got to wear his "birthday truck" shirt! He kept singing to himself "Happy Birt-day to me!" throughout the whole day.

During his nap, we set up all the decorations.

Oliver had seen me decorating his birthday cake the night before. He was so excited to show it off to his Oma and Opa, and that was before it had the Thomas the Train or candle on it, which we saved as a surprise. It was stressful decorating the cake, as it was my first one. I was mostly worried about the writing. I'd say it turned out pretty well for my first time. The Thomas the Train doubled as a present, obviously. It worked perfectly, because it was a birthday celebration one. The cake on the back plays the Thomas the Train theme song, which he absolutely loves!

He got very upset that we made him open presents instead of playing with Thomas.

He was glad for a little while, but he kept asking for Thomas after every new present.

The grand finale was his new bike from G-dad and Grammy! He's a pro at ringing the bell, but he is a little too small to do the pedals by himself. He's okay with using his feet for now. Hopefully practice (and growing a few inches) will make perfect by the time Spring rolls around.

Happy Birthday to my big boy!
